Care That Starts With Listening
We take a thoughtful, methodical approach to musculoskeletal problems—working to understand the source of your symptoms and help you choose care that fits your goals.
Our philosophy
Individualized care, not one-size-fits-all answers.
Orthopedic pain can interfere with sports, work, sleep, everyday movement, and independence. At OrthoFairfax, we start by listening to your story: when the problem began, what makes it better or worse, how it affects your life, and what you want to get back to doing.
We then work methodically to identify the likely source of the problem. That process may include a detailed history, a focused physical examination, review of prior records or imaging, and additional testing when it is likely to answer an important clinical question. The goal is to treat the underlying issue—not simply chase a symptom or jump to a procedure.
Why non-surgical orthopedics matters
Many common orthopedic and sports-related problems can be managed without surgery. Depending on the diagnosis, severity, health history, and personal goals, appropriate care may include activity modification, exercise and rehabilitation, bracing, medication when suitable, or selected non-surgical procedures.
We emphasize a conservative approach: begin with appropriate lower-risk options, explain the potential benefits and limitations of each choice, and consider more involved interventions only when they make sense. Surgery may be appropriate for some conditions, and we will not suggest that non-surgical care is right for every problem. When a surgical opinion or another specialist is warranted, that should be part of an informed discussion.
Musculoskeletal ultrasound: seeing movement in real time
Musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound allows a clinician to view certain muscles, tendons, ligaments, bursae, and other structures in real time. Unlike a still image alone, dynamic ultrasound can help assess selected structures while the body part moves. When clinically appropriate, it can support a focused examination, help clarify the source of symptoms, and guide certain injections with live imaging.
Ultrasound is not the right test for every condition and does not replace MRI, X-rays, or other studies when those are needed. We use it as one tool within the broader clinical evaluation, choosing tests based on the question we are trying to answer.
Care built around your goals
Some patients want to return to running or a favorite sport. Others want to walk more comfortably, work with less disruption, keep up with family, or maintain independence as they age. We explain what we find in clear language, discuss realistic expectations, and make decisions with you rather than treating you as a number.
Our commitment
A clear, considered path forward.
- Listen carefully and understand your priorities.
- Evaluate the problem methodically to help identify its cause.
- Use MSK ultrasound when it can add useful information.
- Discuss conservative options before escalating care when appropriate.
- Explain benefits, risks, alternatives, and realistic expectations.
- Recommend further testing or referral when the situation calls for it.
